Bidvest’s Mounded LPG facility milestone ceremony
Bidvest Tank Terminals and Petredec recently celebrated a project milestone with an Aprio arranged event on 31 October for its R1 billion Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) import and storage facility. This facility will ultimately ensure that Southern Africa has sufficient access to a cost-effective, reliable and safe energy source.
Members of government, including MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Ms Nomusa Dube-Ncube, District Mayo, King Cetshwayo and Counsellor, Ms Nonhle Mkhulisi attended the milestone event. The facility is expected to increase the supply of the fuel to South Africa by 50% of current demand, which is some 400 000 tonnes a year. It will also further enable the export of the fuel to neighbouring countries.
The event marked the installation of the four largest LPG storage tanks in the world. Each tank is 60 metres long and 16 metres in diameter;together they will have a storage capacity of 22 600 tonnes of LPG. The facility is on track for commissioning by mid-2020.For more on the Mounded LPG Facility and its anticipated effect on the region’s energy supply, visit the website.
